TIEMPOS VERBALES ESPAÑOL /SPANISH VERBAL TENSES





A. EL TIEMPO PRESENTE es usado para informar lo que es verdad  y lo que sucede o está sucediendo. THE PRESENT TENSE is used to report what is true and what happens or what is happening.



  • PRESENTE/PRESENT SIMPLE 

         Tu juegas al fútbol/You play football.

  • PRESENTE CONTINUO/ PRESENT CONTINUOUS

        Tu estás jugando al fútbol ahora/You are playing football now.


B. FUTURO es usado para decir qué pasará. FUTURE is used to tell what will happen.Planes lejanos, usamos el futuro. Further in the future, use the future tense. Iré a Málaga el próximo mes/ I will go to Málaga next month. 



  • FUTURO INMEDIATO para acciones que ocurrirán en el futuro cercano. FUTURE with GOING TO for actions that will occur in the near future.

-Tú vas a jugar al fútbol.
-You are going to play football.
-Esta noche voy al cine.
-Tonight I'm going to the cinema.


  • El futuro también es usado para expresar probabilidad en el presente.
  • The future tense is also used to express  probability in the present state.

 Tú jugarás al fútbol/You will play football.
¿Qué será?/ What will be?
 Estará viajando solo./ He will be probably travelling alone.

C. PASADO/PRETÉRITO INDEFINIDO (PERFECTO SIMPLE) 
es usado para referirse a acciones pasadas cerradas en un punto exacto del tiempo. PAST SIMPLE is used to refer to specific past actions performed at a point in time.

El pasado/pretérito indefinido nos dice específicamente cuando una acción tuvo lugar. La acción está acabada. The preterite tells us specifically when an action took place. The action is finished.


                       



1.Punto fijado en el tiempo/Fixed point in time
Tú jugaste al fútbol ayer/You played football yesterday.

2.Señalar número de acciones/Point number of actions
Ellos enviaron dos correos electrónicos./ They sent two e-mails.

3.Determinar cantidad de tiempo/ Enclosed amount of time
La película duró dos horas/ The film lasted two hours.


-Algunas palabras y frases indican pretérito indefinido.
-Some words and phrases indicate specific time.
  • Ayer (yesterday),anteayer (the day before yesterday), anoche (last night),
  • desde el primer momento (from the first moment), durante dos siglos,
  • (for two centuries), el otro día (the other day), en ese momento (at that moment),
  • entonces (then), esta mañana (this morning), esta tarde (this afternoon),
  • la semana pasada (last week), el mes pasado (last month), el año pasado (last year),
  • hace dos días, años (two days, years ago), ayer por la mañana (yesterday morning),
  • ayer por la tarde (yesterday afternoon).

D. PASADO IMPERFECTO: acción habitual o continua en el pasado, no dice cuando algo ocurre especificamente, mas bien en general. Es usado para referirse a acciones  que tuvieron lugar en el pasado repetidamente  sin especificar la cantidad de tiempo o para describir como eran las cosas.  IMPERFECT TENSE: habitual or continuous action in the past, do not tell us when something happens specifically, rather when in general. It is used to refer to actions that took place in the past repeatedly during a non-specified amount  of time or to describe how things were.

                            

Yo solía fumar = Yo fumaba/ I used to smoke.
Yo solía vivir en Nerja = Yo vivía en Nerja./ I used to live in Nerja.
Juan iba a la disco cuando era joven/ Juan used to go to the disco when he was young.
La casa era muy vieja y grande/ The house was very old and big.




Algunas palabras y frases indican acciones repetitivas o no específicas.

Some words and phrases indicate repetitive or non-specific time frames. 
  • A menudo (often), a veces (sometimes), cada día (every day), cada semana (every week), cada mes (every month), cada año( every year), con frecuencia(frequently),de vez en cuando (from time to time), en aquella época (at that time ), frecuentemente (frequently), generalmente (usually), muchas veces (many times), mucho (a lot), nunca (never), por un rato (for a while), siempre (always), tantas veces (so many times), todas las semanas (every week), todos los días (every day), todo el tiempo (all the time), varias veces (several times).



E. PRETÉRITO PERFECTO/PRESENT PERFECT es frecuentemente usado por acciones pasadas que continúan en el presente o continúan afectando  al presente. The present perfect tense is frequently  used for past actions that continue into the present, or continue to affect the present.
He estado dos semanas en Madrid./I have been in Madrid for two weeks.
Diego ha sido mi amigo durante veinte años./Diego has been my friend for 20 years.

El pretérito perfecto es usado a menudo con adverbios (siempre, nunca, a veces,especialmente "ya").The present perfect tense is often used with  adverbs (siempre, nunca, a veces, specially "ya").

La empleada ya ha limpiado la casa./The maid has already cleaned the house.
Tú nunca has jugado al fútbol/You have never played football.
Ellos no van a cenar fuera porque ya han comido./They don´t go out to dinner because they have already eaten.




Esta mañana he desayunado café con leche, tostadas con aceite, tomate y jamón . 
                 

Colón descubrió América en 1492. 

       

Yo antes fumaba, ahora no fumo.
