Subjuntivo / Subjunctive

Yo deseo que tengas una feliz Navidad y un feliz Año Nuevo.

I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

• El modo subjuntivo es usado para expresar: cosas como deseo, duda, subjetividad.The subjunctive mood is used to express: things like desire, doubt, subjectivity, etc.

• El modo subjuntivo es usado ampliamente en español.
  The subjunctive mood is widely used in Spanish.

Yo quiero que vaya con Dios (vaya con Dios).
I want you  to go with God.

Yo dudo que usted vaya Málaga en diciembre.
I doubt that you go to Málaga in December.

La diferencia entre el indicativo y el subjuntivo es la diferencia entre objetividad(indicativo)y posibilidad/subjetividad(subjuntivo).
The difference between indicative and subjunctive is the difference between objectivity (indicative) and possibility/subjectivity (subjunctive).

Indicativo/Indicative
El hablante siente que es un hecho objetivo.
The speaker feels that it is a objective fact.
Pedro va al supermercado.
Pedro goes to the supermarket.

• El modo indicativo es usado para expresar información real y objetiva. The indicative mood is used to express factual information and objectivity.

Usted va a  Málaga en diciembre.
You go to Málaga in December.

Subjuntivo/Subjunctive
Debe haber incertidumbre o subjetividad, usamos normalmente frases que contienen una oración principal que introduce una cualidad de incertidumbre o subjetividad.
There must be some uncertainty or subjectivity, we usually use sentences that contain a main clause which introduces a quality of uncertainty or subjectivity.

Yo espero que ella venga
I hope she comes.
Yo espero/I hope = oración principal/ main clause

Yo quiero que ella venga
I want her to come.
Yo quiero/I want = oración principal/ main clause

Yo dudo que ella venga
I doubt that she comes.
Yo dudo/I doubt = oración principal/ main clause

El hablante siente que hay incertidumbre.
The speaker feels that there is uncertainty .

"Yo quiero" que Pedro vaya al supermercado.
"I want" Peter to go to the supermarket.

"Yo espero" que Pedro vaya al supermercado.
"I hope" Peter  goes to the supermarket.

"Yo quiero" y "Yo espero" nos dicen que el hablante siente que es incierto si Pedro va al supermercado
"I want" and "I hope" tell us that the speaker feels that there is uncertainty as to whether Peter goes to the supermarket.

Es bueno que Pedro vaya al supermercado

It's good that Peter goes to the supeemarket.

Es importante que Pedro vaya al supermercado.
It's important that Peter goes to the supermarket.

"Es bueno" y "Es importante" nos alerta que el hablante expresa una opinión subjetiva.
"It's good" and "It's important" alert us that the speaker is about to express a subjective opinion.
